P r o j e c t - D e t a i l s :

Hyper Minimalist Loft in a renovated industrial factory contrasting an authentic urban raw feel with hyper minimalism and ultra sleek design. The project involved a gut renovation of the factory halls with gypsum board separating the different spaces.

The prerequisite of using the loft as a working photography studio meant utilising the large North facing windows to allow more natural light into the interior while honoring the original character of the former industrial space.

New volumes have been added to extend the ground floor while keeping the oversized studio sweep. These volumes include a bar, customer reception, office, makeup / styling space, a living room, lounge and sleeping quarters as mezzanine floors using steel C-channel construction, underlay and dry lining boards.

The loft features radiant floor heating and perimeter floor radiators along the curtain walls.

To allow maximum light into the room facades, the safety-glass balconies were not designed with railings or mullions but mounted using proprietary wall mount standoffs flush with the floors.

The design features a dynamic internal spaciousness with conscientious detailing to maintain harmony between all living and working areas without wasting space or interposing volumes.

The space of each volume is maximized; both horizontally and vertically, modulating the position of all elements, from the height of recessed cove LED lit shelves and LED lit luminescent shelves, to the length and width of the bar elements and usable surfaces.

Almost everything in the interior is custom designed featuring a modular lay-out, with elements (such as the bar and kitchen) that can be relocated according to taste.

L i g h t i n g :

Lighting is controlled by a fully automated Visual Productions Cuecore system, remotely accessed via Touch OSC on iPads in the various volumes.

Light sources consist of 80 metres of 4 channel RGBW LED lighting on 12 individual groups, connected using 5 different Ethernet networks via DMX512.

Each group is independently programmable via IP to any static or dynamic (motion) colour scene of up to approximately 17 million individual colours.

Lux (lx) levels have been calculated for each surface and are user adjustable for light temperature in Kelvin (K).

Experiments are currently being conducted to augment the lighting system with electroencephalographic hardware which allows neurocontrol. This involves augmenting the Cuecore with proprietary middleware to detect and alter light scenes using intercepted human delta, theta and gamma brain waves and other biosignals.

E n t e r t a i n m e n t :

The hyper minimalist loft features a home theatre with a 300 inch (7 meter) screen and a 3D IMAX projection system. Accompanied by a Dolby Atmos sound system in Q2 2018 including invisible speakers plastered into wall coves.
